Washing your bed: the ins and outs

Is a fall cleaning session on the agenda? Do the baseboards need a thorough vacuuming, the dust removed from the sofa, the rugs shaken, and perhaps you'd like to give your interior a thorough overhaul? For many, this is the result of several months of "living from the outdoors"; now that the autumnal weather calls for living from the indoors, many want to give their homes and gardens a fresh new look. But hey, in all the hustle and bustle of your big September or fall cleaning, don't you forget to wash your duvet too? Read along for some tips on cleaning your bed and washing your duvet!

Started from the bottom

To freshen up your bedroom, it's a good idea to first move your bed and vacuum under it. It's also a good idea to turn and rotate your mattress occasionally; this way, you won't always be applying pressure to the same spots, and your mattress will stay fresh longer. You can also remove the mattress cover from some mattresses; if you do, be sure to wash it. Note: always check the care label carefully before washing your mattress cover!

Bedding

Regarding washing your bedding, we assume you don't just do this during the big fall cleaning. However, we'd like to remind you that it's good to change your bedding (just the cover; you won't need to wash your duvet as often!) at least once a week. We're referring primarily to your bottom sheet and duvet cover. As for your pillowcases? Change them two to three times a week for optimal hygiene!

Washing a duvet

Have you ever considered that it's a good idea to wash your duvet occasionally? Even though a duvet cover is on your duvet, you still need to wash it because it comes into contact with bacteria. Do you want to wash your duvet? Do this a few times a year. Washing your duvet too often will cause wear and tear...! When you put your duvet in the washing machine, use a delicate detergent and, of course, carefully read the washing instructions on the label; this way, you can be sure you're using the correct degree of washing!
