Do you ever find yourself scrolling through Pinterest and seeing one dream-worthy bed after another? Chances are you've also given a pallet bed a second thought, right? A pallet bed is simply a bed made of pallets. Want to build one yourself, but are you stuck on the question "how do you build one?" It's not that hard, so quickly disassemble your current bed and let's go for it! We're happy to share some important tips for creating the perfect pallet bed!
First things first; pallets for your pallet bed!
Okay, let's start at the beginning: you'd like to make a pallet bed. Where do you start? How about buying pallets! And now I hear you thinking, buy them? Will it cost a lot of money then? That just depends on how you go about finding pallets for your pallet bed! Of course, you can buy pallets; they're actually quite expensive and a waste because... There's a much cheaper way to get them! How? By searching for "free pallets" on Marktplaats or posting a request on Facebook. You'll find that many people have spare pallets and are eager to get rid of them; post a request and go for it!
Building your own pallet bed? How many pallets do you need?
The number of pallets you need for your pallet bed depends on the size of the pallets you purchase. You'll probably choose Euro pallets; these are 120 centimeters long and 80 centimeters wide. With two pallets across, you can create a bed 240 centimeters long and 160 centimeters wide. Make sure you connect the pallets securely; it would be quite annoying to wake up to sliding pallets in the night. Want a higher bed than just one pallet? You can, of course, stack two pallets on top of each other!
Edit the pallets!
Make sure the pallets for your bed are free of woodworm, and carefully sand and treat them before placing them on the bed to support your mattress! After laying out the pallets, you can choose to add a slatted bed base for extra support, although the wood itself already provides considerable strength!
