However, for optimal sleep and hygiene, it's crucial to change your bed regularly and make it properly every day. That's why, in this blog post, we've described how you can make your bed in no time with fresh sheets and blankets, and we've gathered some handy tips for you to learn how to make your bed like you'd do in a hotel. Say goodbye to your struggles and hello to a nice, clean bed!
Why it's so important to change your bed linen
Before you start testing the best bed-making methods, it's important to understand why changing your bed regularly is so important. This is mainly because we humans use our beds so much. We toss and turn in the same spot for about 6 to 8 hours a night, which naturally makes the place we sleep warm and humid. This is perfectly normal, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. The only thing that's important is keeping this area clean, especially since we spend so much time there. Warm and humid places are breeding grounds for bacteria and dust mites, for example. How often do you actually change your bedding? We recommend washing your bedding at 60 degrees Celsius at least once a week and making your bed. This way, you can enjoy a nice, clean bed and prevent bacteria from causing skin problems like eczema, pimples, and blackheads.
How do I change my bed linen without any hassle?
Okay, so changing your bed once a week is an absolute must for hygiene, but that does mean we have to make it (at least) 52 times a year. Like many others, you probably have your own method for making your bed the 'best' way. But how should you make the bed? What's the best way? The fitted sheet often works. The duvet cover, in particular, proves to be a major disappointment every time. When you're shaking out the duvet cover with sweat on your brow, hoping the duvet cover will fall into place right away, you'd rather throw in the towel. However, there's a method that proves incredibly easy once you practice it a few times. This method is also known as the 'burrito method'. Making the bed with or without a topper makes no difference with this method!
Making your bed: a piece of cake
The burrito method is the easiest way to make your bed. It takes a little practice at first, but after that, it's a piece of cake. With this method, your duvet cover fits perfectly over the duvet, and you don't have to contort yourself into awkward positions to make the bed. First, place the duvet cover inside out on the bed, with the opening at the foot of the bed. Then, place the duvet on top of the cover. To begin, roll the duvet and cover toward the foot of your bed, like a burrito. Then, place your hand inside the cover and fold it over the ends on both sides of the burrito. Once you've done this on both sides of the roll, you can easily do the same for the middle of the roll. After this, simply and quickly unroll the burrito back onto the bed. Voilà, making your bed has never been easier!
Making the bed like in a hotel
Of course, you can always take things a step further. If you really want to make your bed beautifully, it should be done the way they do in a hotel. Hotels often have many more accessories on the bed than in most regular bedrooms. Making the bed with pillows looks cozy, and the pillows also make it nice to flop down on your bed during the day. Furthermore, by making the bed with a bedspread , you can make your bedroom and bed even more cozy and warm. A bedspread also keeps you nice and warm during the colder months, something we can certainly use in the Netherlands. To make your bed like in a hotel, you can make it as you normally would, the only difference being that you tuck the edges of the duvet in against the mattress. This creates an even more streamlined look. Once this is done, you can add two or four extra pillows to the bed and drape the bedspread over it. Making your bed like in a hotel is actually a lot easier than you think.
